Aug 23, 2008 - Check out Bela Fleck's performance of this on the BANJO! It is on hisgrammy award winning CD Perpetual Motion. This and many other pieces both solo and with other musicians is an astounding recording. At least checkout his version of this then tell me you are not impressed.

Oct 2, 2008 - to Xyaqua: The princess Scarlatti musically educated and followed for years was Portugues (not Spanish), born in Portugal, her name was Maria Barbara and she was the daughter of the king of Portugal and of the Austrian Maria Anna (I know the names in Italian) who was the queen of Spain. She then married the future king of Spain and moved to Spain (and Scarlatti followed her). There is no dedication on thesonatas and we don't know to whom he dedicated them. Many were written before he met her.

Dec 11, 2008 - Amen! With only a banjo and mandolin, he set the tome for an album even he could not maintain. It is aguably one of the best recording of k159, and certainly the best non-keyboard version. There really is something about this early italian baroque. K159 is worth the cost of the cd alone, yet the rest of the album is arranged incredibly well also. One wishes he would do more.

Jan 29, 2009 - there is a good book - i do not own it so forgive the vagueries- _dominico scarlatti, master of music_ it is a pretty good book. but to write 550 or more sonati, wow. could you imagine having dominico teaching you keyboard? she must have been able to put nearly anyone to shame... thanks for the info!

May 25, 2009 - great performance. lovely. I don't know if I prefer her rubatto, or pagorelich's more strict rhythm. both are great interpretations. interesting that they use exactly the same tempo though.

Jul 21, 2009 - She is actually the prototype of a Japanese robotics company. It should be impossible to figure out if she's real or not, how could you tell!

Oct 10, 2009 - I love how people comment on these incredibly talented pianists as if they're world renowned performers with doctorates and numerous recordings with companies like Naxos, and Deutsche grammophon, and decades of experience; the highest caliber musicians you could ever find--and its simply not the case. Of course everyone on here listening to videos on "youtube" are "critics"....give me a fucking break. Stop talking shit and enjoy the music for Chrissake!! This is Scarlatti played perfectly!

Mar 12, 2010 - I can perfectly understand how you feel about the subject, and I would agree, had man not been created with independent minds and voices to arbiter them. We all have different opinions on things, and that includes on the ways we would wish a piece to be played. If only praises were posted on forums and discussion boards, it would be counter-intuitive. You might want to observe that criticism is not to be taken personal, but simply a different perspective. Diversity should be embraced, no?

TheGabcat Says:

May 28, 2010 - She plays this piece as if she wrote it herself!! I've been playing this for about a month now, and i still cannot match her incredible speed! Brava!

PhillipFawcettPiano Says:

Jun 10, 2010 - my friend says this is an exemplorary performance of Scarlatti, hard to tell apart from Pogorelich's disc

TheGabcat Says:

Jun 21, 2010 - I wish I could play this piece to Irena's incredible speed, but after listening to Pogorelich play this, it sounds almost like a different song,...i think Pogorelich played it the right way.
